About Excess Access

In 1998, Lisa Craig Gautier founded Matter of Trust.org (MofT) in San Francisco with the help of her husband, Patrice Gautier (now Apple, Inc. VP of Engineering - iTunes Store & iPhones Apps Store), and the support of 35 friends and relatives. MofT is an ecological 501 (c)(3) public charity that concentrates on manmade surplus, natural surplus and eco-educational programs. MofT's first manmade surplus project was Reuse of Society's Abundance (ROSA) which developed this online matching database system - Excess Access.com.

It all started when Lisa was given a new livingroom rug and wanted to donate her old rug because it was still perfectly good. She found a school that could use it in its library story-time area. While there, she asked if the school could use anything else and was given her first "wish list". She was amazed by how many generous businesses and households want to provide good surplus that's about to be dumped. Everyone prefers to pass on items to those in need, they are just stumped about how to do this conveniently.

But more evoking is the other side of the coin. The harsh effects of shortages, budget cuts, and scarcity of supplies in schools and nonprofits both here in the US and for international grassroot NGOs.

Together, Matter of Trust and Excess Access form a system that works professionally with donors and respects the ideals of nonprofits. Participants are willing to pay a very fair amount $5/ year because they need this service to continue and realize its value.

Successfully self-sustaining and happily expanding, Excess Access is a donating, recycling, state-of-the-art web site that doesn't compete for the funding that charities need. The founders donate 100% of royalties back into Matter of Trust.org.

Our hybrid is an online small business helping to support a public charity. Also, we are staffed by a wise, loyal and dynamic group of seniors, work-from-home moms, and student interns. We believe that this is the staffing model of the future. Above all, we are thrilled to be able to spend our days meeting you and providing a service that is vital to society and healthy for the environment. It doesn't get much better than this! Everybody wins!
